Somerset Hills Soccer Club and Ridge Mavericks Soccer Club Announce New Name and Logo for Merged Club
In August, we announced our intent to merge our two clubs into a new, not-for-profit youth soccer club serving Basking Ridge, Bernardsville and the surrounding towns.
Since then, representatives of both clubs have been working diligently on the details of the merger. We promised to keep you updated on important developments, as plans took shape. As such, we are now delighted to be able to announce that a name and logo have been chosen for the new club.
Building on our long, proud history of delivering excellence in youth soccer, our new club will be known as FC BERNA.
The name FC Berna references our roots in Bernards Township and Bernardsville, yet draws too on the proud European heritage of our sport, recalling the great European clubs such as Barcelona, known as FC Barca, which is acclaimed and respected the world over for its youth development program.
FC Berna is unique, different and exciting, slightly quirky even. It’s easy to say, to stand behind and to shout from the sidelines. It builds proudly on our heritage, while at the same time representing a fresh and exciting future.
The logo is strong and bold. The black bear recalls the bears that can often be seen in our local area and the colors are fresh and distinctive.
We considered many options in selecting our new name and logo. After careful discussion of several options, FC Berna was the clear winner. We trust you will be as proud of the new club name, FC Berna, as we are, and that you share our enthusiasm as we look forward to our combined soccer future.
Mike Gallo, President, SHSC and Brett Buzby, President, RMSC
